Also known as Yak Cheese or Chhurpi, Cheezy-Dog Yak Cheese is a traditional Himalayan recipe. Yak milk is used in the original yak cheese recipe. We personally opted for a version made with cow's milk. This is because cow's milk is less rare and also less expensive. To prepare this delicious stick, the milk is first preheated to cause it to curdle, then lemon juice and a touch of salt are added. This mixture is then pressed and left to dry for several weeks. This traditional process ultimately gives this product a hard and solid texture.
This treat is also ideal for dogs to chew. The solid texture of the Yak Cheese Cheezy-Dog makes it an excellent option for gnawing. However, be careful not to throw this chew on a hard surface. This stick is extremely sturdy, but also very brittle. It may shatter into several pieces. Choose a size of your Yak Cheese Cheezy-Dog based on your dog's jaw strength. Owners of compulsive chewers should opt for a larger treat. This is to prevent this chew from breaking into small pieces or not lasting as long.
When there's a small piece of Cheezy-Dog Yak Cheese left, microwave it for 10 to 20 seconds. This will transform it into a puffy, crunchy treat that's also safe for your dog.
